Steve Boyd began as the pulpit minister
of the Central Church of Christ in 1975.
His duties include preaching on Sunday
mornings and at evening services when a sermon is part of the schedule. Before coming to Central, he preached at the Arlington Church of Christ in Mt. Healthy, Ohio, and in congregations in Indiana, Tennessee, Kansas, North Carolina, and Illinois.
Steve received his B. S. degree from Lipscomb University, Nashville, Tennessee, his M. A. degree from Kansas State University at Pittsburg, and his Ph.D. in speech communication from the University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois.
He is also professor of speech communication at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky. He previously taught at Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina, and Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois.
Even though not a part of his "official" duties, Steve often conducts weddings and funerals in the lives of Central's members and enjoys the relationships that have developed in the years he has been at Central. He dedicated his book of devotional readings, Moments with the Master, to the members of the Central congregation.
Steve is both a motivator and motivated. He often conducts seminars in presentation skills and listening for businesses and associations across the country. His favorite speech is "High Bid," which incorporates the auctioneer's cry--another of Steve's talents. The benefit auctions he's held at Central have been among the highlights of his career with this loving and caring congregation of God's people.
He lives in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, with his wife Lanita. Their daughter, Kelsey, teaches ESL in the Covington Public Schools and she and her husband Stephen Byers are active in ministries here at Central. Son, Josh teaches at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and lives with wife Gina and their children Kinley and Knox in Lafayette, Indiana. He and Gina are active in leading and teaching at the Elmwood Church of Christ.
